How do you start like that without taking too much time by going too deep?

Responded Apr 22, 2005 12:52PM

RIGHT TO THE STREAMLINE! And, it's TIGHT. You can tell he's just itching to whip his body and transfer that momentum down the pool. How long did he have to stay like that for this picture?

I see several things...all of which I want to be able to do...none of which I can do...but then again, I'd actually have to PRACTICE them!!!

If you look at Jeff's head, he's looking way back (ie in the direction that he's heading in). I suspect that this is helping him arch his back to be able to get out of the water (from the starting position). Also, his hand and arms are nicely streamlined. Lastly, its obvious that he's pushing hard with his legs at this late stage of the start.

Am I correct to say 1-through the head and arms back-initiating the movement from the upper body then 2-push hard with the legs in an up-and-out direction to get the upper body out and above the water to be able to re-enter with the hands instead of just pushing through the water.

I NEED more information on backstroke starts - more technique tips from ANYONE???PLEASE???

You have to see the little things, the details. See that white bottle on the right? Keep hydrated.

Responded Apr 22, 2005 02:20PM

The "little things" I like, is that he's OBVIOUSLY not swimming in the end with the MEDIUM, and SLOW lanes. :)

Not to contradict you, Mike, but it appears to me that the head is almost in line with the spine while the chest is what is stretching to "see" the other end.

Back stroke even by diving,Good balance in starting position with back curvature.starting posture Completely similar to that of free style but with inverse direction. Great body position,
