Pic of the Week - September 1, 2006

Posted by Glenn Mills on Sep 01, 2006 06:59AM (3,779 views)
This weeks pic comes from a clinic we did in Georgia last week. While snapping pictures of kids, I watched this very young (probably 7) swimmer doing breaststroke. When I got back to the wall and looked at the images... this is what I saw.

Tell me what YOU think about this image.

For me... Not sure if its a wide stroke on breastroke (if so, the pull path will come with time and practise so no worries), or it could be butterfly ... nevertheless, the main thing I noticed was the fingers closed... This is such a pleasing thing to see from a swimmer at such a young age.
We all know "fingers open" is very common and frustrating to many parents and coaches.... Nice one.

It very rare that I see a 7 year old take the time to drop their chest. She really setting her stroke up well!
Look at that shallow out sweep. I bet she's doing a great job of keep her body horizontal as well!

It seems to me that she has developed a rather good connection between her arms and back. Note that muscle above her armpit.

What I like is the control she has over her hands and wrists. I teach kids this age, and this level of body control is rare. Really nice job, whoever you are!

Well, for a 7 year old it is a great picture. Maybe her outsweep is to wide and she is looking a bit forward, although those air bubbles indicate to me that she already started her insweep and is moving upwards which would explain also her tense lats.
Great 7 year old swimmer!!!

Looks really good to me. She might be a bit wide, but thats assuming she doesn't have the power for such a wide stroke. But very good catch position.
