It is a great picture of perfect swimming! The stroke is taken while the swimmer is still UNDERWATER about to breakout...in this way he won't deccelerate...he will carry all the momentum into the breakout. Tomas |

If this is his "first" stroke, his left arm is either above the surface or down his left side, neither of which would be good! (Most people don't push off the wall with only one arm extended.)

Good point swmcch... it should be described as the completion of the first stroke, NOT the first arm pull. He did push off with both arms extended, pulled the left arm down and rotated to his side while sneaking to the surface. So, it's mid-way through the first stroke CYCLE, and would be better described as the 2nd stroke. So, the guy who wrote the description is sometimes a little daft. He tries. :) |
