Hello from Indiana,
I just received a very disturbing phone call. The "powers that be" at our local school are currently planning on filling in our pool. We are supposed to be pacified with "we will build a new and better pool.....when more money becomes available.....no more than 5 years down the road, or so!!!!! I am extremely ticked!!!!! According to them the the pool is under utilized. The current plans are to fill in the pool creating another all-purpose gym. I currently have to drive my kids to the next town to participate in a winter swim program. Because our school has been unwilling to work with the community to use the pool. Now, this. I am very, very hot!!!! If I had the extra cash, I would consult a lawyer and possibly sue the school or at least see if I had grounds. Every child in K-gartne - freshman in high school take at least 1 week of swim lessons. That is a life skill!!! Do they not know this?? Our summer club has over 120 kids every summer. We do get to use the school pool in the spring for 2 months for stroke technique training. We will have to eliminate that. Our summer club has won our coference swim meet for 6 straight years. Yet, according to "the powers that be" our small community does not have enough interest in the sport. AGHHHHHHAHHAHAHAHAHH!! I am upset!!!!

Responded Jan 27, 2007 01:10PM

Hello from Annapolis to Sand from Indi-
ana. You have a right to be upset. 120
kids every summer for swim summer club,
winning your conference 6 straightyears
& the"powers that be" close their eyes to the needs of the kids! I will pray
to God above, that the "powers that be"
will have a change of heart and their
blind eyes open! Frankdrums

I'm in London. Where we'll have the Olympics in 2012, but only have one full sized, 50m Olympic pool in the entire city. No wonder the brits are better at short-course races!

I am Australian, though, so the idea of not having a full size pool to swim in fills me with despair.
