I'd say that she is practicing side kicking with fins that will help her with her plantar flexion. She will also get the feeling of swimming on her side.

....or she can be doing single arm freestyle to practice her rotation and the use of paddles will strengthen her back muscles.

.... I'm going to take a shot in the dark here.... she's doing fly kick on her side. I ruled out flutter kick because her knee is quite bent implying more lateral movement..... check out the water wave pattern.

my 2 cents

...hmmm or.... side sculling....

oh yeah ... it helps to promote a better catch mainly for freestyle. I do this drill sometimes to stretch out my lats ...as odd as it may be :)

I just wondered if Tomas has a day job ? It's really good to be keen but you must be this site's #1 interactive fan - good luck to you, it's a great website. I thought it might be fly legs on the side too, but then why the hand paddles ? Perhaps she's swimming frontcrawl with a single fly kick timed to initiate rotation - not sure why with fins and paddles, but I suppose, why not ?

Come on Steve...it can't be fly, just look at her right heel behind her.
Thank you for wishing me luck and I do have a day job...it only takes 5 minutes to write a post!!!!!!!!

It looks like this might be a catch point type of drill. If this is true, why not get the hand out front and at the catch point and scull there?
