Please don't get me wrong, I am in no position to critizise any swimmer, not to mention Roland Schoeman who I think has almost a perfect stroke. Now I know that Rick DeMont likes to teach a high shoulder position to get all that leverage at the pull and I think that Schoeman's LEFT shoulder tends to drop a little bit...just a little bit...maybe he anchors his left arm better in that position.
Awesome swimmer and great DVD.

C'mon guys lets comment on this great DVDs!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like Schoeman's stroke and that is the stroke I am aiming to.
One of Schoeman's focus points is that "the kick drives the rotation" and this runs very much on the contrary to what I have heard many many times which is, that the kick should follow the body and never push it.
Although I don't build my stroke from the back to the front (or as Schoeman says on his kick), using the kick to rotate has worked well for me...which brings me to the HUGELY important point on the Kara Lynn's DVD and that is the balance (I think of the power) between the kick and the pull...and I'll let you know how this balance works for me.

ok, one question- what is his secret for such a strong kick?!

Responded Jul 14, 2008 05:59PM

Hi sprinter...how are you?
It is not only a strong kick, it is also a strong pull. You should see Schoeman training with the "Power Rack"...he lifts 2 very big bucketts completely full of water (I'd estimated around 30 pounds of weight for each buckett)...and I think, that is a huge "secret" to his kick.

The other thing is that in every kick his foot goes out of the water and supossedly when he re-enters the kick he introduces air into the water which allows him for a faster kick.

I'd say those are 2 secrets to his powerful and fast kick.

Take care.
