Swimming Question of the Week - May 27, 2008

Posted by Barbara Hummel on May 27, 2008 07:02AM (3,326 views)

Did you swim outdoors yesterday, the traditional opening day for outdoor community pools and backyard pools?  If you did, what was the water temp and how was your swim?

Couldn't pass up the outdoor 50 meter in Reston, Virginia - opened Saturday. 65 degrees with no wetsuit definitely had me picking up the pace a bit.

I did not swim outdoors with a hat.
I did not swim outdoors with a cat.
I stayed in where it was nice and warm.
And watched car racing while I sat. ;)

I stuck my left foot in the Atlantic Ocean on Long Island. That was enuf...53 degrees.

Heated to a fine 78°, no one else in the pool between 8 and 9, sun going down . . . means reverse order IM to keep the sun from blinding me during back, nice swim!

Went with the kids to our local lake for Memorial Day I had to wear the wetsuit, let's put it that way! I'm hoping that for my Sprint triathlon lake swim Saturday things will warm up :)

Here in Minnesota our outdoor pool is not open until next week. But last week we swam a tri with an open water swim in 64 degree water in Fountain Lake which is in Albert Lea, MN. brrrrrr plus it was a cool and very windy day so no chance to warm up after.

Jumped into the Pacific at Redondo Bch. CA. with a shortie tri suit, & it was not long enough!
Took my breath away(lo 60's) for about 5 minutes, but if you kept moving it wasn't bad.

I did not swim outside. Lake Washington is still 58 degrees. We're waiting for it to break 60.
