Swimming Question of the Week - December 9, 2008

As we approach the middle of the season for many age-group teams, what's been working for you?  What new things did you add to your program, post Olympics, that are bringing results?

I "added" a new squad. We're tapering right now and I am so tired that I can sleep in a standing position. Times are dropping though and they will dropp even more after the tapering :D

Since I don't have a coach...I sticked to "Total Swimming" by Janet Evans....the workouts and the programs really helped me during this year. I highly recommend this book.

Hmmm... what haven't I done yet?
In September I joined a second masters team (and they do much more speed work than the other team) so now I swim with a coach 5 days a week.
I started using paddles, buoy, kickboard, and snorkel (not all together but I never really used pool toys before).
Oh I got one: I started doing some dryland work on my own using a stability ball and an ab wheel (again not at the same time). Although I really need to do that more than once a week ;-)

I started keeping a log of my daily workouts and I make sure to write down any feedback that I received and anything that I learned. I got that from Janet Evan's book. Tomas, I enjoyed it also.
My times have been improving slowly but surely. I am still wondering which of these has made the biggest difference so I can do more of it and drop more time. I'm guessing it is doing more speed workouts but until I figure it out I will keep doing all of it because I cannot get enough. I'm addicted.
