One can never leave the technique behind...but my focus will be on fitness.

hm, that's always a difficult question becasue I'm kind of "I cannot swim, so teach/show me EVERYTHING!" - swimmer. My coach says I must work more on my endurance, and I will do so... almost... I'll just add, again, some "hoverhours" in the pool for my technique. When I am experimenting I like to do so alone and then discuss it with my coach. Otherwise I get nervous and mess up haha :D

I'm with you guys... it's fitness for me too. Is 47 too late to lose baby fat?

Technique is a given. It's hard to NOT think about that. What I have to remind myself to allow time for is dryland strength. The two together equal fitness.

Woo Hoo!!!! Thanks for the encouragement sprinter. :)

Fitness, including core strength. And trying to stay cool enough to workout in an overheated pool, any suggestions? Right now anything over a 100m is out of the question, just too hot. I swim 100 then cool off by standing up into the cool air (it's 0 degrees F outside the building). But I have a goal -- Colorado State Masters meet.

Now I have to shake off the holiday feasting and drinking and get back into technical shape. When the water no longer feels like I'm swimming in pudding I know I getting it back. You can't have one without the other.Technic and conditioning are the yin and yang in swimming.
Keep blowing bubbles.

My main aim is fitness and technique. My dry workout is very good but need develop a explosive power etc Also need to learn about speed and flexiblity as well - I wanna be same level as Phelps which is not easy but I try my best.

As a begginer to the swimming world I will focus on technique

Having changed my coach recently, I think it will mostly be technique for a while. But at a certain level fitness is always an important point.

I learned to swim a long time ago - -the good old Red Cross s-stroke. So while I'm in good shape again - finally -- I think this year my focus will definitely be on technique. I figure the only way to get faster now is to strengthen and tweak technique.

Technique first then fitness.
