Swimming Question of the Week - July 1, 2009

Posted by Barbara Hummel on Jul 01, 2009 06:03AM (2,135 views)

How do you use video in your program... either video of your own swimmers or commercial videos like the Go Swim DVDs?

How would you LIKE to use video in your program... what would be the ideal setup?

I would love to have video from all angles to see my body position, etc. I know what's happening in certain areas, like I don't kick as much as I should and I'm pretty sure I often drop my left elbow. But, it would be great to actually see these things. My son took video about two years ago of me doing a 100 free, but it's not professional. Way back when I was learning, I couldn't get enough of the Olympics, because that was the only time I could see swimming and for me, seeing is one of the best tools for learning.

I agree with Chris. Video is the best tool for learning. That's why I LOVE GoSwim ! I also use GoSwim DVD.

I love the videos! My son is 13 and he enjoys swimming. His swim team has about 80 kids and one coach. The coach is wonderful, but overwhelmed. I 'm having my son watch the Brendan Hansen breaststroke video today. I want him to learn the correct technique to prevent injury.

I bought a small sumergible camera and its very usefull because we can film under water and give instantly feedback to the swimmers to correct some mistake or just see what they are doing

@jesus: what camera did you buy as I am still mulling about the best 'cheap' one for us?

@Mario - here's a page with a few. I have the Pentax W60 that I use frequently, but I also know the Olympus is very good:

My son has the Olympus Stylus 790SW 7.1MP Waterproof Digital camera - he and i have used it - it gives great clarity underwater shots.

olympus 790 its the camera I have been using for more than 1 year, I made it a clear acrylic accessory (a little box with a long handle) to submerge it and move with the swimmer I need to film
