Well to me a swimming drill is like any other drill in sports (baseball was my sport growing up and now golf). The purpose being to learn a fundamental and develop muscle memory of whatever the proper way of doing a movement is. Drills help you to develop "feel" as well as proper technique.
In my mind the best way to approach is with FOCUS. As a noob to swimming right now, that means, I can't work on anything tired, as I do it sloppy and/or wrong. So if not rested and mentally and physically don't do it. (for me at least) Half assed measures just build up bad habits I have learned. |

It is the practice of an isolated swimming movement in order to enhance technique. |

A swimming drill is an activity done repeatedly in order to accomplish one or several goals. An open mind is required, as some drills may initially seem a waste of time or awkward or impossible. I have found GoSwim drills to be useful and difficult. Coach Rachel Stratton has given TCY masters swim team some drills that seemed impossible to me initially. In some drills, I was actually going nowhere or in the opposite direction of that intended! But with persistence and coaching, I eventually was able to do it. |

For me "drill" means I have to spend my weekend at work. There's upcoming 2 meets nearby for April and May that both land on the same weekend of my reserves. What a big bummer, pass the kleanex |

Merriam Webster's says: "1. to fix something in the mind or habit pattern...." Yes, it is a verb, first! Thank you Steve for your service! After the Kleenex, practice crying while you do your favorite impartation by repetition (ibid.) swim, and your mood will be bouyed!! |
