Swimming Question of the Week - September 9, 2010

Posted by Barbara Hummel on Sep 09, 2010 01:22PM (1,748 views)

September seems to be the month when many teams begin a new season.    What do you hope to accomplish during the first two weeks of the season?   (Please tell us if you're answering as a coach or swimmer.)

To switch my muscles on, after a month of a closed pool (and cycling instead :) )

Hopefully you took your iPhone with you and watched drills on our app. Of course, which we pay to serve all over the world. We'll be coming out with an Android app in the next couple of months so people can take those with them too and won't have to rip them from the web. It helps us out so much when people use the tools we've created to view our material. This way we get more traffic, make a little bit more money, and continue to provide a tremendous amount of free material. We only hope our trusting community continues to support us.

I'm answering as a coach, swimmer, and concerned small business person. Who knows... maybe we're too nice. What's anyone else think?

First to answer the "Swimming Question of the Week", as a self-coached Masters swimmer I'm trying to "get my head" back into the swim of things. Work schedules and a malfunctioning SwiMP3 have made workouts all but impossible. My immediate goals are to get a minimum of three 8K (SCY) plus workouts per week, next meet in early-mid November.

Glenn, you are a warm, caring, giving person I number as a friend even though I doubt we've ever crossed lanes. I will add your app when I upgrade next spring and appreciate what you all do for my reentry into the sport as well as what I can see is a driven dedication to swimming. Yes, you are too nice and I for one want to express my thanks for everything you (all) do.

As a coach (personal trainer) I start a new phase with one of my client's training today. He is training for a marathon. For the next first two weeks he has to do a lot of reactive training, which is completely new to him. I didn't say I hope him to accomplish that, because I know he will. Practice makes perfect, right? :)

As a swimmer I hope I will manage to bring balance in my training again. I did too much last week and suffered again (in a bad way). Also, I hope I can do that 50m fly race, which I unfortunately had to cancel first for other reasons. It would be my first swim meet appearance since Jan.

Reset the parameters of what constitutes good training sessions with the swimmers and a couple of timed swims (one IM and one freestyle) to ascertain current levels of fitness as a benchmark for the rest of the season. Also some real tough work on drills and techniques especially starts and turns.
