New Toy - Finis Foil Monofin

Posted by Glenn Mills on Feb 11, 2011 08:23AM (11,588 views)

Look what we got to play with this morning.  It's the new Finis Foil Monofin.

Obviously much more to come on this, but from day one, these are going to be a great addition to the training.

These are pretty cool... Misty and Bob came out and did an underwater/fly clinic with us and all the kids got one of these fins... They like the fins much better than the fiberglass ones...much more comfy...

Watched underwater kick progression by Cindy Tran (coach Bob Gillet) such amazing stuff they do! I'm waiting for that Foil now as it's hard to get it in EU.

Tjeempie, more toys to get! Looks great for my developing body dolphins. I need a 50 or 100 meter pool! In a blink of an eye I'll be at the other side (of the pool) with these toys on my feet.
Thanks Glenn for sharing this with us.

Glenn, I want to ask you something: is it necessary that the foot space of the foil mono fin is extremely snug, I mean do we as swimmers need to suffer piled up toes in this foil mono fin.
Did you use the Fin... and what are your experiences with the Foil mono fin? And what kind of program would you suggest in the beginning? Thank you very much in advance!

I like the fin, and with the softer material and open toe, once you get the right size... the toes stick out and you can use it longer than a normal monofin. You want it a bit snug so when you're sprinting, it stays put. I wore one of these fins for a set of 10 x 100's and I only kicked. Alternated on my front and on my back. It was no problem.

Thanks, Glenn for responding. Information is helpful. I probably need to go one size up unless I got a weird kind of fin. One more question though: are the ends of the foot spaces (1 - 1 and half inch) harder than the rest of the foot spaces? And yes the rest of the material is very nice, soft rubber. It is where the foot is the widest, there it that harder rubber.. I need to call the Finis people. Sounds really attractive the kick work out with the mono fin.

I don't have one sitting in front of me so I can't remember off hand. I wear a size 10 shoe and the medium fits me just right. If you go up a size, the fin seems to bend too much in the strap around the back of the foot and it buckles a bit. I do like them very tight however... so that's about all I can tell you.

Thanks for responding so quickly!! I used some baby powder and kneaded the foot parts.
It feels way smoother now. Thank you very much for all the information!

So Glenn and Barbara, what is your opinion of the Foil vs. the Shooter now that you have had many months to play and train with it?
