Lifeproof Waterproof iPhone Case Tested

Posted by Glenn Mills on Sep 13, 2011 10:34AM (7,734 views)

I did say I was going to test the Lifeproof.com iPhone case... so here's a quick video.

I shot this last week at the San Diego ASCA Coaches Conference.

In the pool swimming is Roque Santos, and in the background was Brian Goodell.

They are swimming the beautiful Endless Pool Elite.

Had a great time, and yes... the iPhone is still working and shooting beautiful video.  I can attest that it works fantastic!

Wow, $70. Not bad. way cheaper than me going out and buying a waterproof digital camera. Hmmm.

A couple of questions Glenn if you please. Have you tried "self-video" by placing the iPhone on the bottom and swimming over? Is the sound with your iPhone submerged in the Endless pool what it sounds like to swim in one?

I think the iPhone is too light to lay on the bottom. Simple turbulence will move it pretty easily. The phone was right next to the motor, and also realize who was swimming in this pool. Olympians. 98% of people wouldn't be able to have this turned up to there, and if they did, just like Roque, it would only be for short sprints. At a lower speed, you can hear the motor, but you don't really think about it... too much going on.

Thanks for the info Glenn. Watching again (and again) it's easier to see see just how fast the "current" Roque is swimming against, 98% is conservative. I'd like to take one of those machines for a test swim sometime.

I'm not asking for a testimonial, but in your opinion, is the Lifeproof case worth it's cost for an iPhone owner who lives/works in a wet environment?

I just got the Live proof case. It does very slightly affect typing sensitivity so if you text or email constantly it may be aggravating. Very small and light and attractive. Works as advertized underwater, which is to say, brilliantly well and seemlessly. Just laid it at an angle against end of pool on the bottom and it worked really well and stayed in place, although not a rowded pool so not a lot of underwater turbulance. You would need an assistant for anything advanced just leaving it there was perfect for turns and push-offs. This will not be an everydayt product for everyone but if you drop your phone a lot or are hard on it , this is absolutely fantastic.
