Swimming Pic of the Week - October 25, 2012

Posted by Barbara Hummel on Oct 25, 2012 05:08PM (1,859 views)

In this week's pic, swimmers prepare for the fourth leg of The Great Pumpkin Race, an icebreaker relay held at the halfway point of last weekend's "Leaf Peeper" masters meet at UVAC, where Barbara coaches.

For the icebreaker relay, interested swimmers put their name in a cap at the beginning of the meet.  Teams are drawn at random, regardless of age, gender or affiliation.   At the start of the event, teams have 10 minutes to find each other and decide who will swim which legs of the relay.  The legs are always a little silly, but challenging, and teams are competing for some amazing prizes of baked goods.  The legs of the relay were 25 yards each of:

1.  Ghost...T-shirt, any stroke
2.  One foot in the grave...feet first
3.  Pick an apple and put it in the basket...sidestroke (no actual apples involved)
4.  Pumpkin kicking...keep the pumpkin on a kickboard as you kick a 25
5.  Howl at the moon...dog paddle with vocals
6.  25-yard IM
