Going back to Old School (Posted by Reemi Wentzel)

Hi Chaki! It looks like your long capacity is great. An important thing is to ACCEPT where you are at and enjoy the journey where you are heading. Also start swimming slow, very slow and you will see you can do more laps continuously. And do not compare with 8 years ago, which is of course hard to do. But this makes your swimming much more enjoyable. And practice all the four strokes. And be patient you will get there where you want to be! By the way great picture from above, is that you 8 years ago??..

Going back to Old School (Posted by old school)

Hi Jeff
Thank you for your valuable suggestion. I also want to mention that, I am very much comfortable with jogging continuously. The reason I see behind my inefficiency is because i have gained "a lot" of weight these years. I also want you to know that I can swim 40m underwater comfortably thrice in one hour work out.
Any other suggestions apart from cycling?
Thanks

Hi Chaki
first of all, are you fit and in good health,8 years is a long time out of a pool.
if you are just out of sorts with breathing try some cycling to build lung capacity without componding leg joints.
If your breathing is so bad maybe worth seeing a doctor to be safe.

What is your favorite Swimming accomplishment or memory? (Posted by old school)

3*20 underwater swimming in a small swimming pool. While turning underwater in third lap, I didn't kick off properly, though I managed to finish that lap with a powerful breaststroke and butterfly combo.

Hello Stalwarts,

I need your guidance. I have been in swimming for 8 years. Now, there has been a gap between me and the swimming pool for another 8 years. When I try to swim 50m, I am grasping for breath and I cannot accept it. Unfortunately that is the truth.

Please help me and let me know, how to improve my stamina and go for many laps continuously and not drills. I am still in touch with all the strokes blissfully.

Thanks,

Chaki

Breaststroke-High Elbow Catch? (Posted by Cameron Kilman)

I know a high elbow is necessary to get a good catch in just about every stroke, but I struggle doing this in breaststroke. Are there any drills, or pieces of equipment that'll help me keep my elbows high?

Also this is off topic, but how do you improve your distance and power during pull-outs? I appreciate any help. :]

I can't believe nobody likes my idea. I love doing this. It takes all of the "grip" of the water away from my lower legs. Then when I take them off my lower legs feel huge.

Thank you for posting this tragic news, James. This is making me more aware how fragile we (our bodies) actually are. We can be so powerful in our minds and bodies and ready to start in the Olympics and then boom all desires for being the best, for representing your country, are crumbled. Washed away. A huge reminder to enjoy every minute of our daily lives, be it in the pool or at work or whatever we are doing. No time for complaining anymore.
