If you want to post your feelings about the new high tech suits, pro or con... post them here. Thanks.

i feel that Fastskin 1 was the better suit , because it contains a lot of this shark material , then they minimize it in 2 , and they banned it in pro and lzr .

and btw the only one who get benefitted with a new suit is the one whos sponsored by the company coz they made him a custom one , that absol. fits him . for example Amre luve i dont know how his name is written the french one , had got 44 in 100 free Sc , with the tyr tracer , and he had done better than when he wear the lzr , and thats because tyr is an official sponser of his club so they made a special one for him that fits his sizes . and the same with LZR -> phelps , Swift -> pearsol , Addidas -> thorpe and Arena with schoeman .

but for us you have to try all to find the most suit that fits your circumfrance .

I think something needs to be done. The CSCAA sent out a letter recently explaining a bunch of what was going on. In it they said that something like 90% of the coaches at the European Championships wanted to ban certain suits, materials, etc. You know something isn't right when Popov's SCM 100 Free record goes from the fastest in history to the 39th fastest - in ONE year. Some studies are starting to arise that say the suits aid in floatation and other things such as core stablization.

I just think it goes against the purity of the sport. The past Olympics there was too much about the suits and the pool, and not nearly enough about the training and preparation of the athletes. We need to be careful, or it's going to get to the point where it's about the suit you where, not how hard you work, that determines success.

I think they need to go back to the fastskin era, and leave it at that. There needs to be bans and limitations on what the suits can be made of, etc.

I don't think we can go back to what you're asking Dustin. And, I also heard the coaches at the European Championships were upset because people were wearing 2-3 suits. Why did they let them where all the suits? Who's running the show?

This is a huge can of worms, and it was opened by FINA themselves, they have only themselves to blame for the problems. I don't think we go back to the older suits either. You can't stop manufacturers progress. What do they market on in the future? Our old suits are better than your old suits? It's the lifeblood of business to enhance what came before, within the rules. FINA changed the rules and didn't check to see if the new rules were really in line.

Now, in my opinion, swimming can control this, but we can't go backwards. Limit how many suits can be worn. Limit when the suits can be worn. Limit the ages the suits can be worn on, with rewards for those swimmers who surpass non-suit performance standards so we don't limit 13 year old superstars that may have a shot at international competition.

FINA and the other NGBs, as well as CSCAA will need to hold swimmers and coaches accountable like they do with drug testing and when considering CSCAA, training times and all those other compliance rules.

I heard the other day that NGBs were complaining because of the WR bonus's they had to pay this year. What they think we forgot is that they also have had huge influxes of swimmers to teams and the sport in general because of... the huge number of WRs being broken this year. Our sport has never been so popular. Was it ONLY Michael? I don't think so.

Next year, when the suits are limited, or (I hope not) banned, don't worry about 100+ WRs being set... we may have seen our last one for a few years. Whatever money they spent this year will be saved in the next few. Things will level out.

I don't anticipate the NGBs asking for all that money back. I don't anticipate all the WRs that were set this year to be erased, or carry an asterisk. I don't anticipate the banning of the tech suits. I do anticipate more stringent rules as to their usage however, which I think is good.

I do think they're here to stay however. And just in case I'm wrong... BETTER ENTER SOME MEETS NOW!!!

A bunch of us old Olympians have a saying, and it in a way pertains to Popov. "All great times eventually become the same thing... cuts." That this happened to even the legend Popov in such a short time isn't a good thing... I agree. But his legend will live on, and just like the comparisons of athletes of today, to athletes of years ago... they are NEVER valid. If you knew how to win 40 years ago, you'd still know how to win today. Not saying he'd still win everything... but with all things being equal, he'd be right up there with everyone else. Times will be forgotten, the wins live on forever.

But Dustin dont forget somthing so important , the Fastskin Production line was stopped , because of the Huge amount of sharks they kill . so they cant reproduce fastskins , so imagine they stopped the LZR coz of floating , then they stopped Fastskin because of animals rts associations . so i think we will go back to Sydney style "the aquaplade" :)

All kidding aside... if we keep going back and back in suits, and I end up having to wear my old 26 paper suit... I'M DONE SWIMMING. Whatever happens... the next generation of suits BETTER COVER MY ENTIRE BODY. Faster or slower... I don't care!

A couple of questions glenn... about the blueseventy. do you find that its better for backstroke to wear it, or just the legskins? I remember seeing most of the olympians wearing legs for the 100 back, but then at US Nationals, and World Cup events, seeing almost everyone wear bodysuits. thoughts?

And also, what is it with the waist size?! The chest weight and height seem ok, but the waist size seems rediculous! is there anything to this?

Thanks!

On this chart, I wear a 28. I thought it was just a bit large for me, which could explain why it was able to eventually stretch out to 6'3" guys. Roque Santos told me that if people are "between" sizes, to go to the larger one. I'm sure this speaks to how it would bind in the shoulders. That's really about all I know. The waist measurements are a bit optimistic for a masters swimmer, but fortunately, my skin is so pliable at my age, that it has no problem squeezing in a bit.

Just a correction...Crocker, Schoeman, Nystrand, and Draganja all went under Popov's record prior to this year, Crocker and Draganja did it back in 2004.

Wow Glenn you're post is a lot more though out than mine. I guess I just kinda started writing without thinking about I was really saying. After reading it over you're right it doesn't really sound possible. I still think something needs to be done though, and I really like all the regulations and stuff that you suggested. I think they are things that will actually work and be managable. I was at a meet the other weekend and I saw a 12 year old wearing a LZR. That just isn't right. A.) she was too young in my opinion, and B.) it wasn't even that important of a meet, again, in my opinion. But she may have been aiming for cut or something I don't know.

By the way, what is NGB? And on a completely different note, do you coach a college team?
