My right shoulder hurts all the time during practice. When I swim free expecialy. Anyone know how I can get it to stop? It's starting to effect my breaststroke which is my main stroke. Thanks!

At what part of the stroke do you feel it the most? If it's at the extension, drop your hands just a bit so avoid pressing down or out with a straight arm. If it's half way through the pull, focus on what you need to do to move the power production to your back or lats.

Changing how you do something helps to avoid injury... but if it persists, make sure you talk to your coach, and/or go see a therapist. Avoiding injury is part of reaching your long term goals. Good luck.

Bryce, usually it is another muscle that coases you shoulder pain. Pay attention especially to where the pectoralis inserts the shoulder joint, also in the arm pit and to your neck muscles. If one of them is too tight, it will be pulling on your shoulder and causing you pain.
As Glenn mentioned above, check if your pull is correct and that you are activating the correct muscles.
Of cause I do not feel what you feel and cannot tell for sure. But you must find out where the problem is and avoid all movements causing you pain, even if it means that you need to limit your swim practice to kicking with your arms at your side for a while. Good luck!

Im a distance swimmer and i only breathe to the right side. My right shoulder hurts also, so when i began to bilatteral breathe the pain went away. Also lowering head position and leading your stroke with your elbows and reaching helps that problem.

Talyor is on the money. Bilateral breathing is key. Ever shovel snow or dirt and do it the same way over and over to one side? Never switching to the other side? That's your answer. Talyor has the correct answer for ya. take a advil or 2 and during the day try to place your elbows in your rear pocket pants and hold for 30sec, palms up facing the cop asking you to freeze. Do that whenever you can squeeze those back muscles together. Hear the clicks and stretches in those tendons, Enjoy!
