My Son is 15 years old and he really would like to do 2'20" (25M short course) in 200 Breaststroke, currently his time is 2'36".

What will be a good pace time he should try in practice for Breaststroke if he would like to do a 36 seconds split in 200 Breaststroke in competition?

p.s. all time is base on 25M short course.

Well I personally I don't swim much with SCM but that's about a 4 second time drop on each split. I would work on getting a feel for the pace. Like 4 x 50's on the 2:00 hitting the 37ish. Then take a break and start another round of 4 x 50's aiming for 36 as a minimum and 34 as a maximum. In my own personal racing I realize my 50's are gonna get slower by a little bit each 50 and you should factor that in as to how fast you should go out. Obviously not to fast of course. Just something to think about.

Frankie, it would be good to know what his current splits are to see how he races it at the moment. From there you can see if he does 'die' from going out too fast, sometimes slow and steady to start with brings it home faster. However, if he is going out too slowly it can be difficult to then pick it up. But, if you know where the 'balance' sheet is now, you can work around it.
