Swimming Set of the Week - August 20, 2010
This was the crowd-pleaser of the week for the Masters team that Barbara coaches. The set, which is a "take it to failure" set, can be swum as all freestyle, but it also lends itself to variation.

After finishing the Chesapeake Bay Swim last weekend, a couple friends had commented that it was the longest swim they've ever done.
While some swimmers are racing in open water this week, others are getting ready for championship meets. This set is for those racing with a black line down below.
This is one of my go-to sets when I need a practice that provides some easy swimming as well as 50s that can be as challenging as you want to make them. It's a set that accommodates a broad range of swimmers if you have a mixed team.
Got championships? This week's set can help you taper, but can also be a good anaerobic set at any point in the season.
This week's set combines many elements that coaches (and swimmers) should like: it's a team builder because everyone does the same set on the same sendoffs (except for beginners, who have a separate track); it's a set that pushes everyone to the limit; it's a set that you might not think you can make, but then you feel GREAT when you make it.
In honor of Valentine's Day on Sunday, this week's set is a cardio challenge. It's not a lot of yardage, but it will test your heart in more ways than one.
In addition to challenging your cardio system, this week's set is also a brainteaser. Just what you want for a 5 am practice :)
This week's set is 9 X 200 with lots of rest, which means it's quality yardage
This week we're posting Leg #2 of the Triple Crown. Seventy-five swims on a 1:20 sendoff.
This week we're borrowing an idea from coaching friend Mike Collins at NOVA Masters. Every year, the NOVA Masters do something called the Triple Crown to help them get ready for the USMS One-Hour Postal Swim in January. Leg #1 of the Triple Crown is 50 swims on a 1:30 sendoff. No equipment.
With Halloween tomorrow, it's gotta be the classic "Satan Set."
If you choose easy sendoffs and take too much rest, this week's set becomes just another set. But if you step up and challenge yourself, this will be one of those sets that gets ***** next to it in your workout log.
This set is in honor of Scott May, a Masters swimmer on the team that I coach. He's got a Big Birthday coming up and is doing this challenge set tomorrow.
We are a group of swimmers who swim really fast, and like to help others learn how to reach their competitive potential in the area of professional swimming.
