Pic of the Week - The Coach
Coaches need to continue to spend time inventing, creating, or just taking the time to step back and teach.

All coaches and teachers should start every session with a plan, but sticking to the plan line-by-line doesn't always make for a productive practice.
For years, it's been a dream to ride a motorcycle across the country, stopping along the way to visit teams. I figured it would be a good way to see what the real swim teams are doing, but real life has a way of getting in the way of dreams.
In developing how to best deliver the GoSwim Gold videos, and moving our content to a more convenient delivery system for you, we're also learning the best way to use our own videos as coaches.
In reviewing the year, I decided to pick the 10 drills that meant the most to my own swimming or coaching this past year.
Very simple question about coaching this week. If you're not a coach, think about applying this to your specific job (that is of course... if you really love what you do). ;)
I had the opportunity to spend the past week in Columbus, Ohio, at the Senior National Championship meet for USA Swimming. While there, I got to watch Ryan Lochte, both in and out of the water.
Almost a survey, but a very simple question posed to the coaches who show up at the site:
Our friend Cullen Jones made an appearance with the Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics swim team this week. Here are a couple pictures showing how the swimmers reacted to him. Hard to look at these without smiling... at least for me.
With so much swimming, racing, training, or coaching, motivating, teaching... when was the last time you just sat back and watched people swim.
This week's set provides opportunities to bring the team together by having everyone go on the same sendoff. The drill/kick set is a good chance to get everyone focusing on the same technique points. The main set brings everyone together, but provides challenges for sprinters and distances swimmers alike.
Building a great catch in freestyle takes focus, using simple, inexpensive tools ads a creative way to get your swimmers to focus out front.
September seems to be the month when many teams begin a new season. What do you hope to accomplish during the first two weeks of the season? (Please tell us if you're answering as a coach or swimmer.)
I know this is very late notice, but just read about this coaches clinic going on over the next few days in Florida. Check out the list of speakers.
Continuing the discussion from last week about coaches and swimmers:
We are a group of swimmers who swim really fast, and like to help others learn how to reach their competitive potential in the area of professional swimming.
