Main Set Thursday - July 28, 2011
This swim set is all about the descends.
This week's set will make everybody happy with a combination of IM and freestyle.
Been traveling this week, and it's always fun to swim with another Masters group. Here's what the SCAQ (Southern California Aquatics) team was doing today. Thanks, Coach Gina, for the workout!
This week we again take one of Glenn's Big Sets and modify it for, say, a Masters team or age-group team.
Special Black Friday workout. A nice long set to work off the extra dressing and gravy. Posting early in case you want to plan ahead.
This week's set is a continuation of our set from October 15, 2010. Everyone on the team goes on the same sendoff. The set generates a certain amount of nervous energy (the good kind) throughout because no one knows exactly how s/he will perform on each segment. Effort level ranges from aerobic to very anaerobic.
There are sets that ask swimmers to descend time while maintaining a certain sendoff. There are sets that ask swimmers to maintain time while tightening the sendoff. There are sets that ask swimmers to descend time AND tighten the sendoff. This week's set is a little different in that it asks swimmers to descend time while ascending (increasing) the sendoff.
This was the crowd-pleaser of the week for the Masters team that Barbara coaches. The set, which is a "take it to failure" set, can be swum as all freestyle, but it also lends itself to variation.
While some swimmers are racing in open water this week, others are getting ready for championship meets. This set is for those racing with a black line down below.
This is one of my go-to sets when I need a practice that provides some easy swimming as well as 50s that can be as challenging as you want to make them. It's a set that accommodates a broad range of swimmers if you have a mixed team.
This week's set starts out mellow, then gets serious at the halfway point.
We are a group of swimmers who swim really fast, and like to help others learn how to reach their competitive potential in the area of professional swimming.
