When it’s time for some real work, the coach can shorten the cord by looping it around the block a few times, or using a much shorter cord.  The goal here will be to cause the swimmers to reach a point where they can not move forward any further.

This works for swimmers that are as great as Ricky!  Watch how he searches and struggles for a better connection at the front of the stroke and try to imagine what he’s feeling as he tries to claw his way forward just a bit further.

Even Olympians will gaze forward to the coach to see if it’s OK to give up… but everyone is encouraged to stick with it just a little longer and continue to try to find just that little bit extra that either moves them forward just a bit more, or starts to pull the back.

When you’ve reached the limit… just let go and let the cord take you back for another go.
