*Decreasing discomfort with a distracting technique*

Working with a young swimmer who has a lot of anxiety about you taking your hands off of them can become a tricky obstacle to overcome. You may want to free yourself of any noodles, kickboards or equipment that provides float. In this video, Bella reacted so extremely whenever she did not have something to hold or have an instructor touching her hand, shoulder or elbow. The distraction of a touch and the noise of the clap offered her a predictable routine and gave her less discomfort. You would continue to add more claps in between the touches and eventually she will be swimming without the distraction of the touch and clap. Working thru discomfort by using creative strategies to address the underlying problem.
