So breathing on every kick, especially in this position, starts to get just a little bit more difficult. Mostly because the rate has to increase.

You'll also notice that the eyes are a little bit more forward. The athlete doesn't press down as far into the water because she has to keep her mouth close to the surface for this rate. She started with no fins, arms held directly out in front of her.

After each kick, she released to air. To make it a little easier. She put fins on, everything is still the same. It just makes it a little easier.

You will notice again that the eyes are pretty much forward. Think of this as the position of the mouth rather than the position of the eyes.  With this flat style that she has and staying very close to the surface. She has to keep the mouth close to the surface.

If you need, you can start to incorporate the mini pull into this process with this, you'll notice that the athlete can go a little bit deeper in the water. The rate may seem a little slower. But he's going to use the hands to help bounce him or push him back up slightly in order to get the air.

Played at full speed. You can see that the rate is pretty high. So making sure that your mouth doesn't go too far below the surface of the water will help you maintain this exercise.
