When we start to look at the timing of the butterfly stroke, as you go through this exercise of float, Diamond, Angel and swing, the kick will occur just as the hands land out front.

These two actions happen almost simultaneously with the hands landing shallow and aimed forward, not down.

This swimmer is using his fins to give that increased surface area and the snorkel so that he can focus on the actions rather than breathing. So remember, float, Diamond Angel swing, and as you swing the hands land forward, and that's when you kick. You want to develop the feeling of the kick driving the hands forward, not down
