**Additional Drills for Teaching Bent-Arm Pull
Anchor the Hand**

Another effective drill for teaching a bent-arm pull is Anchor the Hand.   At our pool we have a perfect area where the swimmers can actually anchor their hand against a freestanding side wall and press through with a correct bent-arm movement.

The swimmer uses only one arm.  I set her palm flat against the wall, with her elbow “high” (forward of her head.  She then presses evenly on the wall and her body will move past where her hand is anchored.

I make sure she rotates as her body passes the anchor point (the wall) in the stroke.

Look carefully around your pool and see if there is an area where swimmers can anchor their hand and try this drill.
