**Common Backstroke Mistakes and How to Fix Them
Mistake #3 - No Rotation**

When swimmers fail to rotate, they create excessive drag as the shoulders plow through the water.  They also have less pulling power because of the lack of core engagement.

One fix is to have the swimmer place a kickboard between their legs, up high. About half of the kickboard should be out of the water. 

Have the swimmer rotate from the hips and have the board touch the water at the same time the hand enters the water.

Coordinate both arms in this way and swim down the pool. Keep up a non-stop rotation from one side to the other.
