**Common Breaststroke Mistakes and How to Fix Them
Mistake #1: Gliding Uphill**

The most common mistake in breaststroke is gliding uphill. When viewed from the side, the body is angled upward, like this.

The fix is to get the swimmer to lean in to the water.   Allow the chest to be the deepest part of the body when gliding. Keep the head within the bodyline and look at the bottom of the pool.

Kick while holding a one-pound weight in each hand, with hands across the chest.   Allow the hips to rise a little after each kick. 

Have the swimmer think of leaning in on the chest at the completion of each kick.

With the arms extended, don’t let the weights sink beyond the normal correct glide position. Hold the arms straight. This will help you get the feel of gliding downhill.

A good drill to help correct this mistake is Double-Kick Breaststroke. Maintain the depth and underwater line by leaning into the water on the second kick.
