With this swimmer, I’m trying to do two things: minimize resistance on the recovery… and set up the feet for a proper and effective kick.

I position her feet inward as I recover them toward the hips.

I hide the feet behind the thighs until the last moment.

I bring the feet up to the suit. The knees go out a little but they don’t draw under the body.

Here, I’m dorsa-flexing the feet and turning them out. See how the feet, when they’re at their highest point, are flexed and the toes are pointed toward the side walls.

Then I guide the feet back and rotate them as if they’re propeller blades, completing about one-fourth of a circle.
