The problem: pulling too late

Common Breaststroke Mistakes and How to Fix Them
Mistake #5: Timing Mistakes
The problem: pulling too late
The fix: speed it up
When a swimmer starts the pull too late she will glide too long and lose speed.
First, tell the swimmer to just kick, hold the breath, and watch their speed by looking at a mirror or watching the tiles or the black line on the bottom of the pool.
Have them be aware when they can see themselves slowing down.
Next, have them add the arms, still with no breathing, and again watch the tiles on the bottom.
Tell them they should feel a consistent and constant flow of water passing by the body. They should feel as if they are swimming up river or in a flume where the water is rushing past them at a constant speed.
This visual feedback and awareness of consistent flow through the water will help the swimmer correct their timing and hold a consistent rhythm.
