My dolphin kicks for a 200, I always like to ascend dolphin kicks.

When I'm diving in for a 200 short course, I'm going to be doing initially 4-5 dolphin kicks off each wall for the first 100.  Then, for the last 50s, I go 6-7 dolphin kicks off each wall.

For long course, I'm going 5-6-7 dolphin kicks off every single wall.  Sometimes if I'm feeling good at the end, I'm going 7-8-9.

For 100 freestyle short course, I'm staying under 7-8 dolphin kicks per 25.  For long course 100 meters I'm taking 9-10 dolphin kicks off every wall.

I've learned with dolphin kicks, I've been doing this for so long, I'm faster underwater than I am on top of the water, I can just hold them.  I make them nice and smooth, nice good dolphin kicks.

In the 100 freestyle short course, you just need to make sure that you're not making them too tight, or trying too hard, so you can hold the dolphin kicks.

The transition from dolphin to flutter kick, on the last dolphin kick, they key to holding the dolphins the entire time, sometimes you need to limit the kicks to the number that allows you to maintain your speed.  Maybe 2 or 3.

By the time you get to 8 or 9 dolphins, they need to be getting faster, and then transition to flutter kick immediately as your feet come down for the last dolphin kick.  There should be NO dead time between the two kicks.
