Breaststroke with an Extra Kick is a great way to focus on all the aspects of a great kick:  Keeping the legs narrow and hidden…finishing each kick…and using the hips to generate power.

Think of it as simply breaststroke…with an extra kick.  Stay in a streamline position for the second kick and see how far you can travel. 

Now watch Staciana’s feet from above water.  Notice how she finishes each kick with authority…and how she rides out the power of each kick with a streamlined glide.

Breaststroke with an Extra Kick helps you focus on the HIPS.  In this clip, watch Staciana’s hips, especially during the extra kick.  Notice how they ride up and over during the power phase of the kick.

As you put all the parts of the drill in place, stay shallow enough so that you can maintain rhythm.
