When James puts on fins, he doesn’t use them as a crutch. He uses them to WORK on some aspect of his stroke. James is a butterflier, so here he’s using fins to develop his ability to UNDULATE. He maintains a tight, stable line through the arms and shoulders, but uses the fins to accentuate the whip-like movement through his chest and lower back. Another fine point to notice is that he kicks equally up and down. The Edge Fins help with this.
As he applies this to butterfly, James uses the fins to achieve greater undulation through his torso. The fins help to define James’s two kicks per arm cycle.
