*Working with Resistant*

Using visual supports to keep students focused and on task_….. Using a visual schedule organizes the expectations for the swimmer that may be resistant to transitioning between activities in a lesson. This young girl has Apraxia and difficulty coordinating her movement. She also has difficulty with speech making her easily frustrated at times when she cannot express herself. The support of pictures as well as verbal directions and prompting keep her on task and improves her cooperation and compliance with activities throughout the lesson. We always reinforce safety in the lesson and practicing a safe ritual in a routine of what you do when you let go of the side makes her response more automatic and successful.
