Grasp one handle in each hand with palms facing inward.  Stand far enough from the attachment so that when you bend at the waist, with knees slightly bent and arms extended, the cords are straight but carry no tension.  At the starting point, the hands are slightly closer than shoulder-width apart. 

While keeping the back nice and straight, and while keeping the elbows and arms straight, sweep both hands out to the sides.  It’s important to STOP the hands before they go past the shoulders.  On Signe’s first few repeats, she sweeps the hands too far back.  She then corrects the movement, stopping the hands at the optimal point to strengthen -- but not stress -- the muscles surrounding her shoulder area.   Control the movement as the hands sweep out…and as they return to the starting position.  

It’s important not to HELP the movement of the arms by using your torso, hips, and legs.  Try to isolate the working muscles – the muscles surrounding the shoulder area – and let them do the work.
