Isolating one arm allows you to focus on a simpler path to the catch.

Holding a pull buoy in one hand, while pulling with the other helps you maintain some balance and length, without having to worry about using that extended hand as leverage while grabbing some air.

If you use a snorkel, you won’t have to turn your head, and you can start to focus on driving the extended hand FORWARD as it holds on to the buoy.

Starting in Position-11 with the buoy in one hand, drop the fingers and forearm into the catch position, like you did in the Front Scull and Dog Paddle lessons.  Feel the muscles in your side engage, and then drive the pull buoy forward by rotating the body and extending the arm.

Repeat, and roll to air when you need a breath.  

Rotation and extension are key in this exercise, so your first thought is to set up the hand and forearm into a great catch position, then focus on driving the pull buoy forward with rotation and extension.
