Fingertip Drag teaches you to have a relaxed arm and high elbow during the recovery part of your stroke. 

This is one of the most basic drills in swimming, but many swimmers do it too quickly and get sloppy about connecting the fingertips with the water.

When you practice this or any other drill, remember to slow down and take time to do it correctly so you can get maximum benefit.   Keep your movements relaxed and precise, and see how cleanly you can execute the hand and arm movements.  

Think about swimming pretty -- with no splashing or thrashing.  See if you can control the recovery so that all you see is the V-grove that your fingertips make as they skim the surface.
