Double arm backstroke is a very traditional drill that helps to make sure that you don't overreach at the top of the stroke. 

A very common problem for backstroke is that people will have the arm go over their head and almost to the other shoulder when both arms are pulling at the same time. It's easy to imagine a position elevons start to the stroke. So the stroke starts directly in front of the shoulder because you're flat on your back. You may have to use a little bit straighter arm pull at the beginning of the catch in order to keep the hands underwater. This is where you can isolate the finish of the stroke.
