The reverse fingertip drag drill is a drill to teach you how to get the proper Bend into your elbows.  This is a very soft drill to be done slowly.

You'll notice that our swimmer has fins on, this is to make sure that the forward propulsion is consistent without using the arms to pull too hard. the goal of this drill is to keep the fingertips touching the surface of the water as you pull your arm through. but rather than thinking of pulling your arm through, try to imagine that your fingers are staying in one spot as your body moves past that spot

To keep the fingertips engaged with the surface of the water the elbow needs to be bent. this bent elbow pull is the proper pull for backstroke and where will start to build the stroke from
