Just as in the previous lesson, we connected the hands to the hips on the hand entry. We want to connect the hands to the hips, this time on a hand exit. Notice that the swimmer finishes the pull and has the hand exit the water with the thumb first. The hips rotate up at the same speed as the hand exit.

What do you think of the hand entry in the hips or the hand exit and the hips both have the same impact on the rotation of the body. The idea is to get the body onto its side to give you the best opportunity possible for a powerful pull.

The additional benefit of focusing on the connection of the hand exit and the hips is that it will help you rotate the recovering shoulder higher out of the water for a cleaner recovery. The higher the shoulder is during the recovery, the less impact it will have on turbulence or resistance in the water.
