In the pool, every wall is a chance to rest, relax, and recover. But there are no walls in open water.
To prepare for this, try doing a long swim of 500 to 1000 yards without touching the wall.
Instead of turning at the wall and pushing off, do your turn at the “T” or 5 feet before the wall. You’ll lose all your forward momentum and have to use your arms and legs to get moving again.
This drill can be stressful on your shoulders and it’s also tiring, so don’t overdo it. Take a break if you need to, or switch to backstroke or breaststroke toward the end of your swim.
