Today we're going to talk a little bit about breaststroke hips. And we know that the goal is to draw the hips forward. But in order to set that up, some young swimmers like to pop the hips up a bit too high. And the pop up of the hips prior to the draw forward can create additional resistance in the vertices or the rippling effect of the rear on the surface of the water. So the idea is really to take the hips and draw them forward, but not pop them and then draw them forward. So I'm going to try to demonstrate, I think it'd be really hard for me to demonstrate this. And I don't know if you'll see it or not. But the idea is that you're going to see the rear and come up right before the draw forward. And then we're going to try to avoid that to make sure that we're not creating additional resistance by trying to set up a move, but we're isolating the move with the connection of the arms, and then drawing the hips forward. So I will give it a shot. And if it works, I'll share the video. If it doesn't work, I'll trash the video. That's what happens. So probably about five or eight strokes, trying to pop the hips up.
five, eight strokes, just trying to keep the hips in line and draw them forward. So obviously, the strokes that always popping the hips, there's, there is some dynamic motion that occurs. But we're really looking at the resistance that's created in order to set that up. So you have to balance between the two. You know, the resistance creation, even if it creates a more dynamic draw of the hips forward. And combine that or contrast it with the hips just being in line and drawing forward. So especially for young swimmers, we try to minimize any drag and get them to associate the future of their swimming with creating as little drag as possible. So it's hit or miss. And we're just trying to figure out the best way for each swimmer. But do watch out for too much upward hit move motion prior to the draw forward. It's just an area that can create a little bit too much resistance for a lot of young swimmers. Cool. Thank you
