**Monday**

**Kara Lynn Joyce:  BONUS – Kicking**

:07 - low body position with heels grabbing the surface

:11 - Very narrow and reduced angle of knee bend

:20 - Complete stability

:26 - Nearly the entire length was done without any part of the foot breaking the surface

**Freestyle 101: Position-11 Kick on Your Back**

:12 - eyes just above the surface - thighs just brushing the surface

:24 - face completely relaxed - face surrounded equally by water - no head tilt

:43 - hands below the surface - hips up

:54 - thighs brushing the surface

1:02 - look at the knee angle - very slight

1:15 - totally relaxed and nearly the entire body is showing above the surface

**Foundations of Backstroke & Freestyle: Vertical Flutter Kick**

:01 - Vert with Sculling

:10 - Vert without Sculling

:13 - arms stationary at or just under the surface

:14 - look for the maximum knee bend

:20 - feel the back kick - not just the forward kick

:23 - toes always pointed

**Better Freestyle Concepts: Small and Continuous Kick**

:01 - Narrow consistent kick

:13 - look for maximum bend in the knee

:19 - watch how much the thighs move

:40 - look as if the body was swimming through a hole / cylinder

**Fran Crippen: Kick from the Hip Flexors**

:24 - left hand enters right foot kicks

:25 - right hand enters left foot kicks

:30 - legs alternate between filling in the gaps and relaxing

:39 - right hand left foot

Then fills in with small kicks

:51 - feet completely cross

1:01 - 6-beat kick - look for the greatest amplitude of the legs

1:18 - trains all kicks during a practice

1:33 - starts with crossover and switches

1:54 - switches to 6-beat - know all your gears

2:05 - on a board - similar bodyline as Kara, grabbing slightly a bit more air

2:11 - stretch your hip flexors

2:29 - next stretch

2:35 - look for maximum amplitude

2:47 - line from torso to max bend in knee

**Freestyle Early Concepts & Skills: Kickboard – How and Why to Use Them**

:01 - low head position - high body position

:04 - slight bend in the knees - feet “bubbling” the surface

:18 - for MOST people - if the board is facing up, the body will be directed down

:30 - push the board a bit deeper into the water to raise the body

:44 - Alignment board with snorkel

:52 - Great body line for kicking

1:03 - beautiful positioning - imagine if you always kicked like this

**James Guy: Flutter Kick – Fins**

:16 - great body line

:19 - slightly larger amplitude - BIG FINS

:28 - straight leg up with the big fin pushing water UP

:34 - Position-11 rather than streamline

:38 - adding the arm movement

:50 - smooth length with continuous kick

1:16 - balance drill - arm recovering above and holding

1:26 - switching to the other side

1:40 - holding the recovery arm

1:49 - moving to the switch

1:58 - showing the arm above water

2:01 - extending the arm up to add more downward weight demanding more balance
