In these next few clips, I want you to focus on how I finish each kick.
Most coaches will tell you to close the feet hard – to almost slam them together – at the end of every kick. This is good advice for most swimmers, but, as you can see here, I bring just my toes together. This is because my feet naturally turn in.
Because my feet turn in like this, I have to work extra hard to reduce drag. So I make sure I bring the toes together on every kick. And I make sure my toes are pointed all the way through the recovery.
Let’s watch this from several angles, concentrating just on the toes and feet.
This is the kick that works for me, but it might not work for you unless your feet turn in like mine do. The important thing to remember is to bring your feet – or your toes – all the way together on each kick.
