Kickboards are not just for kicking…they are for arms, too.  They make a great tool for teaching swimmers how to feel pressure on the hands.

Have your swimmer stand up and put their arms in Position 11 -- straight up and down.

Now have them press the kickboard so they get the correct feeling of pressure on the hands and nice high elbows.  

And then you turn the board and the swimmer swings one arm around and back into Position 11.  

And for backstroke, it’s like this…

….the swimmer rolls and feels the catch of the hand on the kickboard, and this locks in the correct feeling.

People learn better when the muscles can feel what you want them to do, rather than simply hearing you explain it.  The kickboard lets them feel what you mean when you talk about pressing out…or in…or keeping a high elbow on the catch.
