Breaststroke is all about timing. If your timing is off, different parts of your body are going to be fighting each other and your whole stroke will be off.
For me, breaststroke timing is all about kicking your hands forward and through the front part of the stroke. I think about kicking the hands into an extra extension and then into the first part of the outsweep.
To get the extra bit of extension out front, I think about finishing the kick and really slamming the feet together.
The other aspect of timing is that my hands are back in streamline before I actually deliver the kick.
As you practice these things on your own, remember that breaststroke is all about minimizing resistance and dead spots. Try to work on just one thing at a time, and don’t give up if the timing doesn’t feel quite right at first.
