Now that you’ve had a chance to watch me teach, it’s up to you to put these concepts to work in your own lessons.  

You’ll put your own spin on things -- that’s part of what makes a great teacher -- but always remember the basics:

Teach one on one… even in a group lesson.  

Teach eye to eye.  

Talk to your students...and use their name.    

Keep it simple.  

Keep it positive.   

Know where you’re headed in terms of stroke technique.  

Review at every lesson.  

Keep your teaching fresh and memorable and fun.  

Be patient and don’t expect perfection.  

And last:  Teach hand to hand.  Don’t be afraid to stabilize a swimmer’s head, guide their hand, or manipulate the body of a swimmer when you teach.  

Use this video as inspiration to get in the water, and try eye-to-eye and hand-to-hand instruction in your program.  You play a key role in the development of your swimmers and of the sport, so never give up searching for the words and the methods that will make you better at  what you do...and that will make THEM better swimmers.
